Discipleship

What are Discipleship Groups?

  • Small Groups of three to four same gender individuals learning together and gaining a deeper understanding of and connection with Jesus.

  • Intentional relationships modeled after Jesus and his disciples to help you learn and apply God's word in community.

How Does Discipleship at LBC Work?

  • The discipleship process is broken into three different phases:
  1. Foundations Study:
  • Groups will start with a foundation study that helps you understand what the Bible teaches about important subjects such as God’s nature, sin, grace, redemption, the value of Christ’s death and resurrection, and how to have a personal relationship with God. Even if you already have experience studying the Bible, this is a good place to prepare you for the discipleship journey.
  1. Discipleship Curriculum:
  • Your group will dig into a more in-depth discipleship curriculum that will move you to the next level in building your life in Christ, studying the Bible, and developing your role as disciple and disciple maker.
  1. Going Beyond:
  • Do a deeper dive into an inductive Bible study on a book of the Bible, or topic of your group’s choice;
  • And/or step out in service where you can be the hands and feet of Jesus.

  • Groups meet 2-4 times per month, for 12-18 months while working through the various materials.  You can expect 1-2 hours each week of personal preparation time for your meetings.  Meetings typically last about 1-2 hours.  Yes, this is a commitment!  But remember….it's worth the cost to follow Jesus!

Who Should Participate?

  • Everyone at Lakeside! Old and New!
  • If you are a new follower of Jesus, this is the perfect place to start growing your faith in Christ and learning what it means to follow Jesus.
  • Even if you’ve been following Jesus for 20 years, we would encourage you to participate in a discipleship group.  You will deepen your faith and strengthen your relationship with God.  You will also be better equipped to go and make more disciples of Jesus.

Why Join a Discipleship Group?

  • We are called to be disciples and to make disciples.  The Great Commission in Matthew 28:19 tells us, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…”

  • We aren't meant to learn about God on our own.  By being in a discipleship group you'll have structure and accountability.

  • You'll grow in the knowledge of God and apply spiritual disciplines which will help you develop spiritual maturity.

  • The natural result of the growth you'll experience is that the kingdom of God will multiply as you disciple others to know God.

How Do I Get Started?
